The village,'Rainton' is thought to come from the Old English Renningatun; 'Renn's people's village'.It once had four public houses; 'The Rose and Crown', 'The Blacksmiths Arms', 'The Village Tavern' and The 'Traveller's Rest' which was renamed the 'The Olde Ships Inn' around 2010. It received a blue paint as well. It would be in 2016 when the pub was bought and turned into an Italian restaurant which is still open today.
