Situated by the village green, this ancient family run pub and restaurant dates back to 1727. Visitors to the village can take advantage of the 'Library' (a converted red phone box) once they get the code from the pub.

Over the years there have been many visiting celebrities. Martin Shaw visited when filming scenes for ‘Inspector George Gently’. Martin Roberts, contestant on ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ and presenter on ‘Homes Under The Hammer’ joined the owners for lunch.

Anne Wood the creator of ‘The Teletubbies’, ‘In The Night Garden’ and ’Rosie and Jim’ filmed there during an interview for the BBC. There was also American movie star Kim Cattral who traced her Grandfather back to Spennymoor and enjoyed cod and chips there whilst filming scenes for the series ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’
